Red Bull CEO Christian Horner is candid about the woman who helped him overcome a sexting scandal

Christian Hornerteam manager and CEO of Red Bull Racingrecently spoke about a challenging period in his personal and professional life. Earlier this year, Horner faced allegations of sending inappropriate text messages to a female subordinate, sparked a sexting scandal. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Horner addressed the situation for the first time and emphasized the importance of resilience and support from his family and team.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Horner described it as a “perfect storm”, saying:In life, a great lesson is that the more success you have, the more you become a target.“He expressed disappointment at the lengths some individuals went in one try to destabilize him and the Red Bull team. Despite the controversy, an internal investigation of Red Bull cleared Horner of any wrongdoing.

Throughout the ordeal, Horner credited his wife, Geri Halliwell-former Spice Girls member for her unwavering support. “My wife has been incredible, amazing. Your partner is always the one you share your difficulties with. She has been absolutely outstanding and hugely supportive“, he shared.

Halliwell’s perspective and encouragement helped him navigate the challenges, with Horner adding, “She saw through a lot of things from an outside perspective, and it’s good to have that weight and measure.

Controversy also had one unexpected unifying effect on the Red Bull team. As Horner explained, “In difficult times and when stones are thrown, it actually gilds a team. I think there was an element of ‘fk you’ from the team this year.” He highlighted how his colleagues rallied and strengthened their resolve to overcome adversity.

Horner admitted there were moments of uncertainty but remained steadfast in his belief in the process and the support of his team. Reflecting on the emotional run-up to the season opener in Bahrain, he said, “When I sat on the plane to Bahrain, I didn’t know if I would be in the competition or not. But I had to believe in the process.” Addressing the factory before the first race proved to be a powerful moment for him, as he witnessed the unity and determination within his team.

This year has also seen Red Bull’s continued dominance in Formula 1with Max Verstappen on course to secure their fourth straight championship. Despite personal and professional challenges, Horner has shown resilience and leadership through turbulent times.
