Biden’s special envoy arrives in Dhaka

A representative team from the Biden administration has arrived in Dhaka for a four-day official visit to support sustainable economy, stability and growth and create meaningful and quality jobs in Bangladesh.

The team arrived in Dhaka this morning (November 22) and has held discussions with the labor organization Solidarity Center on, among other things, the workers’ working environment, Bangla daily Samakal reports.

They are scheduled to meet with the International Labor Organization (ILO) later in the day. Meetings with various government stakeholders are also planned.

The delegation is led by Kelly M Fey Rodriguez, the Special Representative for International Labor Affairs, and Thea Lee, Deputy Under Secretary of the US Department of Labor.

During its visit, the delegation will meet officials from the interim government, private sector garment manufacturers and union stakeholders, the US State Department spokesperson said earlier.

The delegation will engage representatives from US companies invested in the garment sector and global labor experts to discuss how best to support Bangladesh’s economy, democracy and workers.
