Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e: Unleashing An Electric Revolution

Mahindra EV

Be it the iconic Thar or the legendary Scorpion, Mahindra has long dominated the Indian automobile industry with its range of SUVs. Now the brand known for making highly desirable and capable SUVs is gearing up to take things a step further with the launch of its new electric SUVs, the BE 6e and XEV 9e. These two all-new eSUVs will make their debut on November 26, 2024, during a special event in Chennai, themed Unlimit India.

For the first time, Mahindra will introduce two premium SUVs of electric origin simultaneously on the same day. The brand believes that the BE 6e and XEV 9e will not only redefine the segment but will also be a game changer, marking a defining moment in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market.

What will differentiate Mahindra eSUVs?

The upcoming BE 6e and XEV 9e are built on an all-new INGLO platform – a dedicated electric vehicle architecture. Unlike conventional ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) platforms that many EVs adapted from, this new eSUV-specific platform addresses several key issues and opens up a wide range of possibilities. The disadvantages of using an ICE platform modified to make electric cars have limitations due to regulations made for various components, such as the transmission tunnel. This leads to inefficient packaging of internal space, and the electric car ends up with many compromises.

Mahindra has said that the “Electric Origin” philosophy has enabled the INGLO to be one of the lightest flat-floor skateboard architectures. This not only improves the flexibility of the seats but also eliminates the central tunnel. In addition, the platform’s low center of gravity, achieved by placing the battery in the undercarriage, offers greater stability and handling. Above all, INGLO is constructed of ultra-high-strength steel and reinforced frontal construction, which ensures the safety of passengers.

The INGLO platform, on the other hand, allows for a more generous trunk space as well as front trunk space (frunk) as the batteries are neatly tucked under the floor and are versatile enough to accommodate both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, with rear-wheel drive generating power from 231 PS to 285 PS .

This is also a flexible architecture that allows Mahindra to develop electric vehicles across different segments or body styles in the future. Additionally, it can accommodate batteries ranging from 59kWh to 79kWh, which has not been seen before in any mass market EV in India. Speaking of which, the BE 6e and XEV 9e are likely to be equipped with LFP (Lithium Ion Phosphate) battery technology, known for its longevity, safety and stability. Not only that, INGLO supports up to 175 DC fast charging, which can charge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in 20 minutes.

A recently revealed teaser of the new Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e showcases their futuristic, sci-fi movie-inspired design language, which notably retains some styling cues from the concept models. While the exterior has a never-before-seen look, the interior complements it with its unique layout. The BE 6e and XEV 9e are likely to feature a state-of-the-art triple-screen setup – a feature only available with high-end luxury vehicles. In addition, the high-tech system can provide 5G connectivity, connected car technology and telematics.

INGLO also opens up new possibilities for integrating technology into Mahindra’s upcoming eSUVs, such as brake-by-wire, power steering and semi-active suspension – another feature primarily used in high-end luxury and performance vehicles. The brake-by-wire system controls the braking process electronically. While semi-active suspension adjusts the shock absorbers’ damping force in real time based on input from sensors that actively monitor changing road conditions.

Safety and features have been top priority for Mahindra and the upcoming BE 6e and XEV 9e would not disappoint you. These electric SUVs are expected to boast Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera and multiple airbags for added safety. Additionally, a unique in-cabin audio suite, with sounds composed by none other than AR Rahman, may be available. To top it off, the BE 6e and XEV 9e will include all the advanced features found in the popular Mahindra XUV 700, making them a real step forward in new-age mobility.

With the launch of the all-new BE 6e and XEV 9e on November 26, Mahindra is all set to revolutionize the Indian EV space. The electric SUVs promise to deliver a unique design, ultra-modern interiors, cutting-edge technology and class-leading performance.
