At AOL, we work to test all the products that the internet seems to swear by to find out if they are actually good or just marketing fluff. The Moccamaster is on our list to try, as it has a pretty good reputation. You can find glowing reviews at The coffee chronicle, Food & Wineand even Cable cutter. Amazon shoppers give it 4.5 stars, while Crate & Barrel shoppers give it 4.7 stars.

As we work to get the Moccamaster tested for ourselves, there are a few reasons why reviewers from dealers and publications seem to be in love with this machine.

It makes good coffee

The most common review I find are people waxing poetic about how smooth and delicious Moccamaster coffee is. Comparing it to pour over coffee (where you set up a station and manually pour hot water over ground beans), they say pour over coffee is a good option if you need a large batch.

“The number one reason for a coffee maker is to make coffee,” says one Amazon shopper. “And making GREAT coffee. This does it in spades! It makes a great cup of coffee, at the right temperature.”

Several reviewers compliment the temperature of the coffee produced by the Moccamaster. The The coffee chroniclea self-described coffee snob, said: “Overall, the coffee from Moccamaster tasted great. The company has done a fantastic job of getting the temperature right.”

It is easy to use

You won’t find an easier machine to use than a Keurig, but the quality doesn’t match a drip machine. The Moccamaster appears to be an easy-to-operate drip brewer, with a water reservoir, a place for grounds and two switches.

“It’s a simple machine that perfects brewing drip coffee,” writes one Amazon reviewer. “Two mechanical switches and a bunch of copper heating elements. That’s it. No computers to break, no fancy gadgets. As an engineer, gadgets are sometimes fun, but what’s more fun is something engineered to near perfection. That’s what the here’s the coffee maker.”

When you start exploring more expensive coffee makers, it seems the customization options increase with the price tag. This is not the case with the Moccamaster, which adjusts the settings for you to make the optimal cup of coffee.

It’s wonderful

Every time I see a Moccamaster in the wild I am impressed. It’s a great machine. Its bean holder is black while its water reservoir is transparent, but the L-shaped metal machine is available in 24 shades, from forest green to blush pink. It will match any kitchen style.

It’s expensive – but worth it

Many of the Amazon shoppers note that the Moccamaster is well worth paying if you can see it on sale. They note that if it drops below $250, it will be a must-buy. Today, ahead of Black Friday, it’s a whopping 50% off, down to $179.50.

Almost $200 is still a pretty penny for a coffee machine, but Coffee Chronicler says the investment pays for itself pretty quickly, as the machine is easy to repair, durable and long-lasting.
