Mutant to release Dario Argento’s “Deep Red” doll, vinyl

One of horror filmmakers Dario Argentos most edgy creations are resurrected for fans of his films to take home.

Collectibles company Mutant and Unbox Industries join forces to release an officially licensed soft vinyl ‘Mad Puppet’ toy inspired by the iconic character from Dario Argento’s masterpiece “Deep Red.” Crafted with screen-quality details, this toy perfectly recreates the menacing essence of the Mad Puppet – every feature is faithfully reproduced to evoke the same disturbing little creature that made an instant impression on audiences since the film was first released in 1975.

This edition comes in an exclusive Mutant box with artwork by Luke Insect and is strictly limited to 150 copies worldwide. The celebration of this figure is further highlighted by an exclusive 7″ single featuring the driving main theme from “Deep Red” on the A-side, and for the first time a version of “Death Dies” on the B-side with the Mad Puppet laugh intro printed on transparent green vinyl. The 45 is limited to 1,000 copies worldwide.

The follow-up to Argento’s “animal trilogy” – “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage”, The Cat o’ Nine Tails” and “Four Flies on Gray Velvet” – “Deep Red” (also known in Italy as “Profundo Rosso”) further cemented the popularity of both the the Italian filmmaker and the “giallo” crime thriller genre. It also marked the first collaboration between Argento and the rock band Goblin, whose members later created the scores for, among others, “Suspiria” and “Tenebre.” The film stars David Hemmings as a musician who investigates a number of murders a black glove assassin – a giallo hallmark — opposite Argento’s frequent co-star and creative collaborator Daria Nicolodi.

“We’re excited to dive into the world of collectibles with our friends and partners at Unbox Industries and are honored to begin with an official Dario Argento play,” Mutant founder Spencer Hickman said in a statement. “The Mad Puppet is truly one of the most bizarre things in any Argento film, and we couldn’t be happier to share its madness.”
