Q2 Billings Area Weather: A warmer than average weekend

BILLINGS — TGIF!

Expect an almost typical fall day on Friday with plenty of sunshine and slightly warmer than average highs in the mid 50s to low 60s.

It will be a mild weekend with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s with some areas about 20° above normal for this time of year. High pressure will keep dry conditions in place through Sunday afternoon.

A cold front will sweep through the area as early as Sunday night, setting in motion a cold and wet pattern next week. Expect rain and mountain snow at lower elevations Monday and Tuesday with temperatures cooling to the mid 50s to low 60s on Monday, 40s on Tuesday, then 40s and 50s the rest of the week.

Snowfall totals across the Beartooths, Absarokas and Bighorns could top a foot late Tuesday night.

Areas along and south of a line from Livingston to Broadus (including Billings) could get between a quarter to a half inch of rain through Tuesday night. Billings may see the first snowflakes of the season Tuesday morning.

As the cold front passes, winds will pick up along the western foothills Sunday night into Monday morning with gusts over 50 mph possible.
