Authorities in Wisconsin are investigating youth social media posts about potential school threats

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – A rural Lafayette County youth was identified and questioned after posting a social media reference to a potential school shooting, authorities confirmed.

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received the alert from the Wisconsin Department of Justice Wisconsin Statewide Intelligence Center. The post was flagged for disturbing language.

Deputies quickly began an investigation and determined the service originated in rural Lafayette County. They contacted the youth manager, who admitted that he created the service.

After further investigation, authorities determined that the post did not indicate a credible threat and that the juvenile had no intention of carrying out any harmful acts.

“Any such comments made verbally or via social media are taken seriously and fully investigated,” said Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill.

The case will be referred to Lafayette County Juvenile Intake, with potential ramifications also being considered within the school system, officials noted.
