Robbie Williams calls for music industry support group for stars

Robbie Williams has called on the music industry to create a support group for ‘young stars struggling with fame’ after the former One Direction singer’s death Liam Payne last month.

Williams, who himself became famous as a 16-year-old with the British pop group Take itspoke of her own struggles and hoped that a “think tank of empathetic and compassionate creatives” could come together to “protect people.” In an interview with Britain Express newspaperhe said:

“If you follow the story closely, we begin to understand, perhaps on a subconscious level more than a conscious level, that fame is not a solution.

“Some are lucky enough to make it to the other end but many don’t.

“I hope something is done in Liam’s name to protect people, whatever that means.”

William’s story was told in a Netflix documentary series last year, which focused on his roller-coaster ride to first fame as a member of a group, then solo superstardom but also mental health challenges. Williams recalled that in the series he was on stage in front of thousands of people and had a “nervous, mental breakdown”. He also suffered from agoraphobia.
