K-12 students participate in the Robotics Program representing hundreds of students

LAINGSBURG, Mich. (WILX) – In Laingsburg, students in the K-12 Robotics Program got the chance to showcase their projects. The program is the only cohesive robotics program in both Shiawassee and Clinton County supporting nearly 130 robotics students.

Each season, or approximately every 12 weeks, students in the program learn about a different topic. This season the students learned about the ocean. Sophia Huges who helps teach and coach the program talks about what this program means to the community.

“Laingsburg schools, we don’t have tribal education K-12. We don’t have a wood shop, we don’t have any of this,” Huges said. “So, this program really gives these students those tribal skills and allows them to learn what they want to do when they grow up. It gets them on the path to engineer, architect all that, which we don’t have any other classes in Laingsburg.”

In December, the 4th and 5th grade teams will have their state qualifying tournament. The winning team then advances to the state championship held in early January.
