Dan Scavino claimed Friday that Mike Rogers would not replace Christopher Wray as FBI director

The 61-year-old was rumored to have been nominated as the future head of the agency amid Trump’s intentions to fire the current FBI director. However, Scavino took to social media to throw cold water on the prospect. “Just talked to President Trump about Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening — In his own words, ‘I’ve never even thought about it.’ It’s not happening,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

In the wake of Scavino’s claims, a Republican source familiar with Trump’s transition process told Fox News that Rogers met with Trump last week at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. However, Trump spokesman Brian Hughes declined to either confirm or deny Scavino’s claim. “For the transition, we are not speculating in selections and are not coming ahead of official announcements by President Trump,” he told the news agency.

During his Friday appearance on Fox & Friends, Rogers, who worked as a special agent with the FBI in its Chicago office, said that “the culture of the FBI on the seventh floor needs to change.” Before Scavino’s claim, former agency deputy director Andrew McCabe told CNN on Thursday that Rogers would be a “perfectly reasonable, logical choice” given that he served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee for the last four years of his term in Congress.
