Jersey Shore star Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola reveals she suffered a miscarriage during her IVF journey

Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola revealed she suffered a “devastating” miscarriage during Thursday night’s episode of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation.

While reflecting on her recent engagement to fiancé Justin May, the 37-year-old reality star revealed he popped the question after a failed round of in vitro fertilization (IVF), which left them both heartbroken.

During an emotional confession, the TV personality told viewers that she had become pregnant, but the embryo did not complete, causing her to miscarry.

“This has been a very long process, there’s been a lot of shots, there’s been a lot of hormones,” Giancola recalled. “Just the thought of even being pregnant was such a magical moment for me, and just to have that taken away — it’s devastating to me.”

Giancola went on to praise May, who she began dating in 2021, for being so “positive and uplifting” after their loss.

“He’s so special to me, and I’m just so thankful for him. He’s been by my side through this whole thing. I just love him,” she said.

Giancola revealed that the same night he took her out for a birthday dinner with her friends and family, before getting down on one knee and asking her to be his wife.

“I’m just like in awe,” she recalled of her reaction. “I’ve dreamed of this moment all my life.”

She continued: ‘I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. “Justin coming into my life made my life a million times better. He’s just everything I could ever ask for in a man. He’s patient. He’s a support and I just love and adore him so much.’

In November, she told E! News that she and her husband-to-be “went through” the IVF process together.

“He’s been so supportive through the whole thing. He’s very positive. He keeps me going and he couldn’t be a better partner through all of this. He’s just amazing,” she said.

Around that time, she predicted that IVF would be “a long road” and that she was “dealing with it and whatever happens next will happen.”

Giancola announced their engagement on April Fool’s Day.

“Life Update: Fiance 3.16.24,” she captioned the post, which showed her flashing her engagement ring. ‘The easiest question I’ve ever answered… world’s luckiest and luckiest girl. I will love you forever and then.’

“Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” she concluded, before clarifying, “Not an April Fool’s joke.”

Previously, Giancola had an on-off relationship with castmate Ronnie Ortiz-Magro during Jersey Shore’s original run from 2009 to 2012.

They finally called it quits for good in 2016.

A year later, she started dating YouTuber and entrepreneur Christian Biscardi.

She and Biscardi got engaged in 2019 and planned to marry in 2020, before the covid-19 pandemic changed their plans.

In July, Giancola publicly confirmed their split in a social media post.
