Protesters cry out delay even as Kerala govt appoints judicial commission Kerala Waqf Board Munambam land row Judicial Commission Inquiry Latest News

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government on Friday decided to appoint a judicial commission to look into the Waqf Board’s Munambam land dispute. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. The commission will investigate issues including the loss of revenue rights for landowners. This decisive move by the government comes amid growing municipal tensions over the issue.

Shortly after news of the Law Commission’s appointment broke, the protest forum expressed dismay and protested the delay in a decision on the matter.

The dispute is over 404 hectares of land donated by Siddique Seth to Farooq College. In 2019, the Waqf Board registered the land as Waqf property. However, protesters argue that the land, which was originally donated for educational purposes, was not used for that purpose and therefore cannot be classified as Waqf property. They also claim that they bought the land by paying for it and have paid taxes on it.

The residents, demanding the restoration of their income rights, launched a protest that has now entered its 43rd day.
