Hardship: Hope not a strategy – Moghalu tells Tinubu’s government

Amid economic hardship and worsening poverty in the country, Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has stated that hope is not a strategy.

This is even as he said he is hopeful about Nigeria despite persistent contemporary difficulties.

Moghalu argued that the country needed to improve the state’s capacity for effective governance.

According to him, Nigerians must learn to be honest with themselves and address the root causes of their problems.

In a post on his X handle on Friday, Moghalu wrote: “Despite persistent contemporary difficulties, I am hopeful about Nigeria.

“But hope is not a strategy. We must improve the state’s capacity for effective governance. Either we fix our problems, or our problems will eventually ‘fix’ us. No alternative to a renegotiated union.”

“We need to learn to be honest with ourselves and address the root causes of our problems. Why ignore them, when the problem is actually quite solvable?

“The problem with continuing with this approach is that when the danger crystallizes, those who thought they were benefiting from the status quo will find that ALL of us – including them – will be the losers.”
