Mr Griffin said: “I expect the number of referrals to increase further and that all cases will be thoroughly investigated by a team of skilled and professional investigators who are dedicated to this case.”

Affected families remained “at the heart” of the force’s investigation, he said.

“We are receiving information from Donna Ockenden’s review team and our approach is informed by compassion, care and sincerity for those affected,” he added.

Ms Ockenden said: “We have signed a memorandum of understanding (to enable us to share information) with Nottinghamshire Police.

“As part of this, the police have asked that we share all review cases with them and we are currently at the beginning of this process.

“We will continue to share the remaining review cases with Nottinghamshire Police, at their request.”
