NEW YORK (Gray News) – The world’s tallest and shortest women met for the first time to share afternoon tea to celebrate the 20th annual Guinness World Records Day.

Rumeysa Gelgi, the tallest woman, and Jyoti Amge, the shortest, exchanged stories and experiences of life from two very different perspectives.

“It was so amazing meeting Jyoti for the first time. It was hard for us to make eye contact sometimes because of our height difference, but it was amazing,” says Gelgi.

Gelgi added that both women have things in common like their love of makeup, self-care and getting their nails done.

Amge is only 24.7 inches tall, while Gelgi towers over her at 7 feet, 0.7 inches.

“I’m used to looking up and seeing people taller than me, but I was so happy to look up today and see the tallest woman in the world,” Amge said. “I’m glad I’ve met Rumeysa, she’s so good-natured and I felt very comfortable talking to her.”

As two of Guinness World Records’ most beloved title holders, the two are also honored as GWR Icons in the book’s 70th anniversary edition.

They join other GWR icons including longest nails (female) Diana Armstrong, longest man Sultan Kosen and disabled strongman Dave Walsh in Guinness World Records 2025, according to the organisation.

“To be named a Guinness World Records icon in this anniversary edition is surreal, it’s the greatest honor I’ve ever had,” Gelgi said. “I’ve seen myself among all these artists and athletes that I’ve always been a fan of – it’s an indescribable feeling.”

Some other GWR icons who have made it into this year’s book include:

“I’m grateful to Guinness World Records for finding me in 2009 and giving me the opportunities I’ve had. I never thought I’d be called an icon and it’s extra special that it’s in the 70th anniversary edition,” said Amge.

Gelgi lives with a rare condition called Weaver syndrome that causes accelerated growth and skeletal deformities.

Amge, on the other hand, has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia and will never grow above a certain height.
