Alabama fans harass moving vehicle

On Saturday, Nov. 16 around 2:40 a.m., an Athens-Clarke County Police Department officer was driving westbound on West Washington Street when he observed two men in the road yelling at a slow-moving car. As the car continued, the men continued to scream and began hitting the car. The police turned on their lights, prompting the men to leave.

Two policemen stopped the men and noticed that they were heavily intoxicated. Their driver’s licenses showed they were both under 21, so they were taken into custody. The males told officers they were fans of the University of Alabama football team, prompting the occupants of the car to insult them.

When asked why they felt the need to get into a confrontation with the car, the men explained that they had been in a physical confrontation with the car’s occupants before. Both men were taken to the Clarke County Jail for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

You are breaking the open container law

At approximately 11:05 p.m. on Friday, November 15, an ACCPD officer observed a man at the corner of East Clayton Street and College Avenue with two open containers of beer. The man noticed the police and quickly started walking away. The officer jogged up to him and grabbed his arm, throwing the beer to the ground.

He tried to get away from the police and demanded other officers to help. Upon searching the man, ACCPD found three IDs, two of which were fake. Police noted bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils and a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man.

The man was charged with two counts of open container, two counts of possession of a false identification and one count of possession of alcohol by a minor. He was taken to the Clarke County Jail.

Underage drinker tries to steal chair

At about 1 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, an ACCPD officer saw a man who appeared to be of college age walking south on South Milledge Avenue near Clarke Central High School with a red chair. Police believed the man did not legally have the seat, so they exited their vehicle and approached him.

When the man noticed the police, he threw the chair aside and tried to walk away. The police asked him why he dropped the chair when he saw the police, and he replied that he did not know what the police meant. He eventually admitted that he found it near a fraternity house, so the officer explained that he did not legally have the chair.

Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech, so they asked for the man’s ID. He said he had no ID or wallet. The officer pointed out that his wallet was visible in his right pants pocket, so he removed his wallet and took out his ID while apparently trying to hide a secondary ID. He denied having a secondary ID when questioned by the police, so the police asked him to show his wallet pocket. Before doing so, he removed the secondary ID and placed it in a different location.

At that point, the officer placed the man in custody for underage consumption of alcohol because his primary ID indicated he was under 21. A search after arresting him revealed the secondary, fake ID, but the officer decided not to press charges. The fake ID was discarded and photographed and the chair was photographed. The man was released to prison and only appealed to the court.
