Governor Abbott calls on state agencies to halt investments with Chinese organizations

TEXAS (KAUZ) – Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter to Texas state agencies urging them to divest from risky investments coming from China.

According to the governor’s office, Abbott ordered Texas state authorities to protect Texans from exposure to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) by fully divesting China as soon as possible.

“The security of Texas and Texas is of the utmost importance. That includes the financial security of Texas state investments. Threats to that security may come from foreign adversaries, including the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), whose belligerent actions in the Southeast Pacific region and the world have increased instability and the financial risk to the state that has investments in China. Therefore, all investments of state funds in China must be evaluated and immediately addressed. In order to further this goal, I urge Texas investment entities that you are prohibited from doing any new investments of state funds in China. To the extent that you have any current investments in China, you must divest at the first available opportunity. Texas will defend itself and our treasury from all potential threats, including those posed by the CCP. .”

Earlier this week, Governor Abbott issued executive orders to protect Texans from spying by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the CCP.

The governor’s office said The Federal Bureau of Investigation Houston also sent out a warning to Texas this week that China may target and harass Chinese dissidents who speak out against the CCP in Texas.
