John Fury asked to quit son Tyson’s team after ‘pathetic’ behavior | Boxing | Sports

Boxing great Carl Froch has suggested Tyson Fury should consider removing his father from his team as he enters the final stages of his training camp for his upcoming clash with rival Oleksandr Usyk.

John, Tyson’s father, was once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after causing a stir at the launch of the Tommy Fury vs Darren Till press conference earlier this week. Despite the fact that both Tommy and Till initially showed respect for each other, the atmosphere soured quickly.

Security had to step in when John started spraying water at Till, sparking a scuffle as both fighters tried to confront each other. However, they were kept apart and the situation was eventually resolved.

In the wake of his latest outburst, fans took to social media to express their displeasure with John. One user wrote: “John Fury is an embarrassment and should not be allowed anywhere near these events, always about him!”

Another commented: “John Fury needs to be banned from anything boxing related. He makes it all about himself.”

A third posted: “Can someone (Carl Froch) please shut up John Fury. The man is a clown, he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a fight promotion.”

While another added: “Not that it would make any difference to Tommy but John Fury should not be allowed anywhere near any of his son’s pressers, training camps and especially their corners during a fight.

A fifth remarked: “John Fury should be banned from all press conferences indefinitely”, while another asked: “Why isn’t John Fury banned from these events?”

To talk to Action NetworkFroch has now criticized Fury Sr: “The usual pathetic childish behavior from a grown man. Darren Till had a lot to say and he was very vocal but at the end of the day it’s not about him, it’s about Darren Till and Tommy Fury, so why does Big John Fury the fighting man get involved. Did he get fired by Tyson Fury and now he’s with Tommy Fury trying to get some of the limelight, I don’t know, but same old damn, Darren Till, wrote him off completely.

When asked if Tyson needs to fire his father, the 47-year-old replied: “I hope so, I hope he’s been told, ‘stay out of it,’ I’ve got some things to take care of and your input isn’t helping me, and your promotion gets old headbutting kids at press conferences.’

“That kid he headbutted (at the Fury v Usyk press conference) didn’t even look like he could shave. He might have been a young man, but he took on the smallest person there and dropped the headbutt on him. That is not the kind of behavior you want to see, it’s bad for boxing.

“At the end of the day he’s a guy who wants some attention. He’s a man who’s never achieved anything. His son Tyson Fury is obviously very good, he’s a top fighter and we know what he’s about. I know he just lost against Oleksandr Usyk, but I don’t care about him. I will answer him because it’s great views and has great numbers, but I’m not going to start topics just to get some clicks.”

Tyson, meanwhile, is preparing for his long-awaited rematch against Usyk. After his first professional defeat against the Ukrainian in May, Fury is determined to even the series.

When asked about his tactical plan for the upcoming fight, Tyson revealed that he will not be making any drastic changes to his approach or team. “Not much time,” he said.

“I know what I have to do, nothing drastic. People can say ‘I want to change coaches or I’ll blame it on my fitness coach or I’ll blame it on the chef or I’ll blame it on the mouse next door.’ Same team, same everything I know what I have to do.”
