One of the most expensive markets not only in India but globally! The ultimate place for first dates, elegant dinners, cafe hopping with friends and so much more. Can you guess the market? Yes, it is Delhi’s famous Khan market!
Delhi’s Khan Market has once again been ranked as one of the world’s most expensive shopping streets, ranking 22nd globally and holding its title as ‘India’s Most Expensive Shopping Location’. Why is it so popular? Well, Khan Market is not just a place to shop – what makes it so famous is the incredible range of top brands, shops, cafes and unique shops, with rents around USD 229 (Rs 19,330 approx) per sqft. It is a favorite place for Delhi’s wealthiest individuals to shop, eat and socialize. Other expensive shopping areas along with Khan Market in Delhi include Connaught Place ($158 or Rs 13,335 per sq ft) and Galleria Market in Gurgaon ($156 or Rs 13,166 per sq ft). These locations attract global brands as a large population looks for luxury shopping in India.
Why are rents increasing?

Rents are increasing because there are not many good spaces. There are more shops in demand than premises to rent, so competition is high. Popular places like Khan Market are becoming more and more in demand as malls fill up, so companies try to get a good spot at any price. Saurabh Shatdal of Cushman & Wakefield says “the increase in rents shows how Indian shoppers are spending more, and it reflects the strength of India’s retail market.”
Is it just about the money that Khan Market is so famous for?
It’s not just about money. Khan Market is known for its amazing lifestyle, and that’s what makes it special. It is a luxury experience in a way that is both special and also decent. The skyrocketing rents show how much people want to be there, and as more shoppers look for luxury experiences, places like Khan Market will continue to attract increased attention.

Global trends and what is the next step for India?
With luxury shopping areas across the world becoming more expensive, rents at Khan Market are on the rise. Milan’s Via Montenapoleone is now more expensive than New York’s Fifth Avenue. Global retail rents are up 4.4% – 11% in the US – – showing that even with more online shopping, brick-and-mortar stores are still important,” said Kath H. Kendall, head of national retail at CBRE. As India’s economy grows and more people buying luxury goods, global brands are focusing on places like Khan Market and Connaught Place, this makes India’s retail future look bright.
