Stock futures fall, led lower by tech after Nvidia fails to meet high bar

Stock futures pointed lower early Thursday, led by tech stocks after Nvidia’s earnings report disappointed investors.

Futures on the technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 fell 0.5%, S&P 500 futures fell 0.4% and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell 0.3%. There was a lack of direction Wednesday ahead of the chipmaker’s earnings — the Dow pared gains on Wednesday, while the S&P 500 was flat and the Nasdaq Composite closed down 0.1%.

Nvidia’s earnings have become an important event for the markets, and Wednesday’s report was no different. The company beat expectations in its third quarter, and its outlook for the January quarter also beat estimates.
