Once focused on opioid use disorder, the homes have been redefined to include alcohol abuse and stimulant use disorder diagnoses, allowing Medicaid to pay for services.

Medicaid has also been expanded to allow primary care physicians to more easily obtain reimbursement for treatment of substance use disorders.

That’s no small change.

Medicaid is the largest source of funding for publicly funded SUD services.

In the last fiscal year, 23,270 women entered treatment for substance use disorders. Of these women, 592 were pregnant. In addition, 29,472 people entered treatment for primary alcohol abuse, according to the state.
