I’m a Celebrity: What Tulisa has said about drug scandal – from ‘year from hell’ to ‘blessing’

Tulisa has been get back into the public eye in recent years, but at the height of her fame in 2013, I’m a celebrity the star was involved in a drug scandal.

The scandal ended up costing her in the fame department, despite the case against the singer was dropped in 2014. Tulisa has always denied the allegations against her and has been open about the impact it had on her life.

Here’s what happened and what the N-Dubz singer has to say about the scandal…

What happened?

In 2013, the Sun on Sunday ran an exclusive story accuse Tulisa of arranging to supply their undercover reporter, Mahzer Mahmood, with cocaine.. The arrangement is said to have been created to help Tulisa secure a film role.

On 4 June 2013, the singer was arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs and was later charged on December 9. Tulisa denied the allegations throughout the trial.

The singer was caught in a drug sting

The trial sensationally collapsed on 21 July 2014 after Judge Alistair McCreath accused Mahzer of lying during the evidenceafter pressuring a driver to lie about Tulisa’s attitudes towards drugs.

In a written statement, he said: “When he (Mr Mahmood) gave evidence last week he was asked questions on the same subject and gave answers completely inconsistent with his previous evidence.”

Tulisa maintained her innocence after the trial collapsed

After the trial, Tulisa told reporters that she had “never” shared drugs. “Let me be absolutely clear, I have never shared drugs and I have never been involved in taking or sharing cocaine,” she said. “This whole case was a terrible and disgusting catch by Mazher Mahmood.”

What did Tulisa say?

Tulisa had not had an easy year, as a sex tape of herself and ex-boyfriend, Justin Edwards, was leaked on the internet alongside the drug charges.

In an interview, Tulisa described the experiences as a “year from hell”. She told me later Fearne Cotton on Happy places podcast: “There were days when I was on the bathroom floor, crying, having nervous breakdowns, thinking about doing the worst possible things.”

However, she has also called the difficult time a “blessing”. She told Fearne: “I call that year my year of enlightenment. There is nothing like it, you cannot buy such life experience. It was completely unexpected.”

She added: “It is very difficult to describe the experience and the character traits you can say it has given me. In the end, at this point I see it as a blessing because it was after that year that I started the journey to find my peace.”

Tulisa has now returned to the public eye

To talk to Mirror before entering the show, Tulisa said: “It’s been a journey and there’s no choice when it comes to coping. You fight or you fall. And so I’ve overcome things that I didn’t realize I was capable of overcoming. But there is nothing worse in that jungle than what happened (to me) in 2013.”

“2013 was the year I was created by a British newspaper for concerns about the sale of Class A drugs,” she told the dancer. “The guy’s name was Mahmood and basically I was approached by a big film company and they sent me a tweet or a DM from their official account to audition me for a film role.”

She continued: “Oh no, I found out it was a lie. So I was told, because I wasn’t an actress, I was less likely to get the part and the only reason I would get it is if I was the girl in the role, and the girl in the role was this bad girl from London who was always up to mischief, hanging out with gangs, doing all kinds of mischief.

“After months and months they eventually got a number and it was from someone who wasn’t even a drug dealer, it was an aspiring film producer and I wanted to make a grab for that person too but I didn’t know anyone who could do it .

“The long story is they ended up ordering £800 worth of cocaine from the number I had given them. Tbefore I knew it I was arrested on suspicion of selling class A drugs and I faced four years in prison. I lost all my endorsements… my life fell apart.”

Tulisa also shared how anti-drugs she was, revealing: “When it came to the trial I had a conversation with one of their drivers, I was recorded but I didn’t know, I said how anti-drugs I am, so they were very aware of my feelings about drugs.”
