A major highway improvement program at Gateway Avenue in Baldwins Gate in Newcastle will start on Monday 25 November.

The £170,000 scheme is being implemented by Staffordshire County Council and is part of a wider £50m investment in the county’s roads over the next three years.

The work is expected to take about a week to complete, weather permitting, and will include rebuilding and resurfacing the road, along with repairs and replacement of damaged curbs and iron.

To ensure the work can be carried out safely, a combination of temporary lane closures will be in operation, along with a few overnight (from 7pm to 6am) for the resurfacing. A signed diversion will be in place during the closures and access to businesses and residents in the work area will be maintained where possible.

Mark Deaville, Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Good roads are vital to people and to our local economy, which is why we are investing more than £50m in motorways over the next three years.

It’s great to see another project getting underway in the borough and I’m sure people using the road will appreciate the smoother journeys. Crews will do their best to keep disruption to a minimum and would like to thank people in advance for their cooperation.”
