Three people, including a child, were killed while two others were injured after the car they were traveling in collided with an overloaded truck near the Pathankot flyover here, on Monday.

According to officials, the car, carrying seven family members — two men, three women and two children — was on its way to Ludhiana when the accident took place.

The collision caused both vehicles to lose their balance and the truck overturned in the opposite lane.

SHO Gurmukh Singh said the truck driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind. He said the preliminary investigation indicated that the truck’s attempt to overtake the car led to the crash.

Further investigation is on and an FIR will be registered, he added.
