Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals the change behind the scenes at Liverpool Under Arne Slot

Trent Alexander-Arnold has shed light on some of the changes behind the scenes at Liverpool under new head coach Arne Slot since the Dutchman replaced Jurgen Klopp last summer.

Slot has overseen a smooth transition at Anfield after a torrid start to the campaign, winning 15 out of 17 games in all competitions – a feat no manager has ever achieved at the club.

The Reds lead both the Premier League and Champions League and have reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. Arne Slot has silenced some of his critics who believed he would struggle to follow in his predecessor Klopp’s footsteps.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has opened up about how the former Feyenoord boss has overseen changes on the training ground.

“The training is more intense, if anything,” Alexander-Arnold told the Swedish TV channel Viaplay via Liverpool Echo. “We work in smaller spaces and I would say it’s a very Dutch way of playing, focused on ball mastery.

“For example, you tend to play to the back foot every time. And if it doesn’t go to the back foot, the session stops and you get asked ‘Why are you sending it to that foot when it should be his back foot?’. It is so detailed.

“The coach is a perfectionist and so must you as a player. We all agree that perfection does not exist, but we want to be as close to perfection as possible. That is what we strive for.”

The 26-year-old added: “Everything is very in-depth, very detailed. He will really analyze the opposition and tell us where the weaknesses are and what their weaknesses are and then encourage us to go out and try to punish them.

“We know our strengths and qualities and he tries to get the players who can influence the games into positions to have that influence. We have many meetings to discuss details. Our basis is that we know how we want to play – we want to control the game with the ball, we know what we need to do and that’s why we’ve conceded so few goals so far.

“Then within that there are hacks and changes and different ways of working around it, but we all understand our roles and when he goes into a game he’ll talk about them. We all know the basics so it’s not like it’s something completely new every week, maybe just minor changes to one of two players’ positions.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently sidelined after sustaining a minor hamstring injury and continues to undergo treatment. He faces a race to be fit for next Sunday’s trip to Southampton in the Premier League.
