Ralph Fiennes Reveals ’28 Years Later’ Update, Plot Details

With 28 days later franchise resumes after nearly two decades, Ralph Fiennes preparing fans to return to the zombie apocalypse.

Before the premiere on June 20, 2025 by 28 years laterthe 2x Oscar nominee revealed some new plot details and an update on the status of the new trilogy, which kicks off with returning OG writer/director duo, Alex Garland and Danny Boyle.

“It’s three movies, two of which have been shot,” Fiennes shared IndieWire.

Fiennes explained about the plot, “Britain is 28 years into this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid people with a few pockets of uninfected communities. And it’s about a young boy who wants to find a doctor who can help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English terrain. But of course, they are hiding in woods and hills and forests. But he finds a doctor who is a man who we might think will be strange, but who actually is a force for good.”

After recording 28 days later (2002) and sits out the 2007 sequel 28 weeks later, Cillian Murphy resumes its role in 28 years later as Jim, a former bicycle messenger who previously woke up from a coma to find the “Rage Virus” has decimated London. He also serves as executive producer.

The upcoming sequel also features Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman and Edvin Ryding.
