Braintree police arrest robbery suspect who was reportedly naked

Nearby Braintree High School was placed on temporary “lock-out” as a precaution, police said.

One person is in custody after Braintree Police responded to an alleged armed bank robbery Friday morning.

An East Bank employee called officers to the 703 Granite St. branch at 10:43 a.m. to report that the bank had been robbed at gunpoint, the Braintree Police Department said in a press release. The department shared surveillance footage that appears to show someone wearing a gray hoodie with the hood pulled tight, flashing a gun and stuffing money into a bag.

Authorities broadcast the suspect’s description, and witnesses told police someone matching that description ran across the street and into the tree line near 639 Granite St., police said. Just before 11 a.m., a Braintree officer detained someone leaving the woods on nearby West Street, according to the release.

“This individual was arrested and will likely be charged,” Braintree police said. The department has not publicly identified the person.

The person who was detained appeared to be naked at the time, according to helicopter footage from WCVB. The news agency reported that the person was lying naked on the road, covered with a yellow sheet.

Braintree High School, which is across the street from Eastern Bank, was placed on a temporary “lock-out” as a precaution, police said. Authorities continue to investigate the robbery, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to the news release.
