Man fights Portland police dog, arrested

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A Portland man got into a fight with a dog and broke into a neighbor’s house during a standoff with officers Friday morning.

Around 5:00 a.m., PPB units went out to serve a search warrant on a Torrie Bulson-Bratton on the 4500 block of N Maryland Avenue.

Bulson-Bratton was wanted for several violent crimes, some of which involved a firearm.

“I woke up to an explosion, fire crews, announcements on a bullhorn,” said witness Jonah Eller-Isaacs.

A Northeast Portland woman woke up to a stranger hovering over her, and according to court documents, this isn’t the first person this has happened to.

Officers say the “explosion” was “some boom from the launchers and other tactical tools used during this event.”

PPB surrounded the building and announced themselves over a loudspeaker, ordering the residents of the Bulson-Bratton unit to come out. Police say two people surrendered but the suspect refused.

After evacuating nearby units, officers deployed “irritant gas” into the building, but the suspect refused to surrender.

Police say they then dispatched a k9 to the suspect’s residence and he began “fighting the police dog.”

“He tried to grab the dog and drag it into his apartment,” says Eller-Isaacs.

Police said “the dog was recalled by its handler. He was later evaluated and no injuries were found.”

After arguing with the dog, the police say, the man broke into a neighboring apartment. The police have put up more gas.

The suspect came out and was arrested. Police say medics treated the suspect for injuries he sustained from the fight with the dog.

Neighbors say they were not surprised by the heavy police presence in front of Bulson-Bratton’s residence.

A nearby resident, Almond, says “there are police there at least once a week.”

“I’ve known the house was trouble, there’s been a lot of violence around it on a regular basis,” says Eller-Isaacs.

PPB members seized a semi-automatic handgun, 2 holsters, firearm magazines, one round of ammunition and a cell phone.

Bulson-Bratton was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of:

Robbery in the first degree (2 counts), Robbery in the second degree (2 counts),

Unlawful Use of a Weapon (2 counts), Menacing (2 counts), Felon in Possession of a Firearm (2 counts), Burglary in the First Degree, Fleeing in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Attacking a Law Enforcement Animal, assault in the second degree and parole.
