‘Stay out of trouble’: Shouting drunk in Telford given stern warning by judges

Gary Bennett, 49, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress when he appeared in Wellington. Telford Magistrates’ Court This week.

The prosecution upgraded the charge at a hearing Tuesday to being drunk and disorderly on Market Street. wellingtonon August 1 this year.

Prosecutor Kate Price said Bennett, of Hall Meadow, Wellington, said he would “burn Muslims down” and likened the police to disgraced police officer Wayne Couzens, who was jailed for life for kidnapping, raping and murdering women. Sarah Everard.

Ms Price said she did not remember anything Bennett said but “being drunk is not a defence”.
