64-year-old man dies in fire at NYCHA apartment complex in Manhattan: NYPD

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A 64-year-old man was killed in a fire at a NYCHA apartment complex in Manhattan on Thursday, according to the NYPD.

The fire broke out on the top floor of the nine-story Frederick Douglass Houses on the Upper West Side around 9:15 p.m. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Two firefighters were also injured, according to the FDNY.

Fire officials said the fire was brought under control just before 10 p.m. The fire chief is investigating the cause of the incident.
