Why Harris’ presidency would pose a threat to constitutional order

Vote. Don’t vote. I don’t care. Just stop telling that vice president Kamala Harris will save democracy.

Do I wish the Republicans had nominated a more coherent, principled, competent candidate for president? Of course. But if anyone is under the impression that Democrats wiretapped such a person, I have news. Spend some time trying to decipher Harris’s swirling, platitude, incoherent rhetoric and you will only be further convinced that we live in an idiocracy.

Of course, there are many reasons why a conservative movement might feel uncomfortable voting for a former president Donald Trump. I understand that. I’m not a fan. But there are plenty of perfectly rational reasons to vote for him, too. First and foremost, the existence of the contemporary Democratic Party.

Liz Cheney, and other Never Trumpers, tell me that the former president poses a uniquely dangerous threat to the Constitution, and therefore I must put aside all political differences with the Democrats and put country above politics.

No doubt this kind of self-aggrandizement feels good, but it doesn’t quite match reality.

For one thing, most of the left’s scariest warnings about Trump are fiction. I don’t believe the Atlantic when it says Trump is a would-be Hitler. I’m sorry, I don’t think he’s going to throw all his political enemies into concentration camps. Save the story for the next Mueller investigation.

Indeed, given recent history, it is clear to me that the left is much more adept and willing to arm the state to punish its enemies. And I’m not just talking about the unprecedented legal action launched against Trump. I’m talking about excluding lawyers. I’m talking about raiding the homes of pro-life activists. I’m talking about espionage against Catholic churches and Department of Justice frightening speeches by smearing parents who stood up to authoritarian school boards as terrorists.

Moreover, even if Trump acted on his worst instincts, the damage would likely be limited to his own presidency. Trump is about Trump. Harris and Democrats, however, have openly embraced a series of consistent, long-term attacks on the constitutional order. Ones that we can never come back from.

Sorry, I don’t accept that a woman who once complained to CNN’s Jake Tapper that “millions and millions of people” were speaking “without any level of oversight or regulation, and it has to stop” is going to be my champion of the Constitution.

Harris running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Waltzrecently argued that there is “no guarantee” of free speech when it came to “disinformation” or “hate speech,” “especially around our democracy.” If this were a well-functioning republic, Walz would be kicked to the curb.

No honest person could believe that Democrats are better for free speech.

Let’s also not forget that Harris once promised to bypass Congress and sign an executive order confiscating guns from millions of law-abiding Americans. Although Democrats like to pretend otherwise, the Second Amendment is still part of the Constitution.

Indeed, Harris is in no position to lecture anyone on any governing norms. She often praises Biden for ignoring the courts and “forgiving” student loans by forcing taxpayers to foot the bill. She supports scrapping the legislative filibuster, which allows narrow majorities to destroy any semblance of federalism.

Harris has sponsored bills that would have overturned thousands of state laws, allowing national Democrats to remove state election safeguards, legalize abortion until coronation, force local religious hospitals to perform gender reassignment surgeries, shut down religious foster care organizations and many other abuses. .

None of this is to even mention her efforts to destroy Supreme Court. Harris, who gleefully participated in the vile smearing of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, supports packing the court — the most serious attack on the judiciary since President Franklin Roosevelt’s effort in the 1930s.

Senate Democrats say it is “almost certain” they will pass a “Supreme Court Reform” bill that, among other attacks on the judicial branch, will give lawmakers the power to strip individual judges of their power.

This is just plain authoritarian stuff.

Right now, in part because of Trump – the court is the only institution in the United States that is functioning properly. There’s no telling what kind of arsonist Harris and the Democrats would install.

At least I know Trump has a track record of not only nominating decent lawyers, but sticking with them under massive pressure.

Indeed, it is strange that Democrats, who support price controls, government mandates, and a host of other economic encroachments that force corporations to bend to their will, constantly warn us of the specter of “fascism.”

We have no idea if Trump’s presidency is playing out. Trumpism is whatever Trump says it is, whenever he feels like it. It could very well be a disaster. But Harris offers me nothing.
