John Legend opened up about Chrissy Teigen’s abortion

John Legend became emotional as he revealed more details about Chrissy Teigenabortion in September 2020, when the couple lost their son Jack. In a new interview, he detailed the life-saving abortion Teigen had to undergo due to a partial placental abruption (this is when the mother’s placenta detaches from the uterus before giving birth).

“Her life was in danger,” Legend said on the Oct. 23 episode of “Club Shay Shay” podcast. “She was well past 15 weeks when she had to have an abortion. She miscarried and bled, and all these things happened.”

He went on to refute common misconceptions about abortion, saying that after 15 weeks, parents “almost always” want to keep the baby.

“People who abort at 15 weeks almost always wanted to keep the baby,” Legend continued. “But there is some kind of complication that has arisen that they have to have an abortion.”

Teigen and Legend shared what happened to Jack back in 2020. At the time, the couple noted that doctors were doing everything they could to save Jack’s life. After mistaking a miscarriage for an emergency abortion, Teigen clarified that she actually did must have an abortion to save her life.

“We’re shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.” she shared on Instagram back in September 2020, according to E! News. “We could never stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”

Teigen ended with a heartbreaking apology to her son.

“To our Jack – I am so sorry that the first moments of your life were met with so many complications,” she wrote. “That we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”

Legend and Teigen have four children: Luna, Miles, Esti and Wren.
