“You are a traveler acting as an agent of the enigmatic collective, tasked with scouring the wastelands of the future in search of specific time cracks that will transport you back to 1980s Poland,” the description reads. “Your mission is to find key figures from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. With your almighty reaper, you can extract their essences and have them accompany you into the future.”

Cronos: The New Dawn’s monsters are works of nightmarish art.

Little more is known about the game, but a rumor has gained a lot of traction, and if it’s to be believed, players could be in for a seriously punishing experience.

“The game is quite challenging, especially during combat and exploration,” the insider claimed ignusthewise posted. “The core loop is Future Exploration: Find time anomalies to get back to the past(.) Past Exploration: Dive into the past to look for ‘souls'(.) 17 main locations(.)”

All this is consistent with Bloober Teams own description of the game’s mechanics. “Set in a bleak world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futuristic technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between the past and the future.”

The listing goes on to say that the game takes place “in a desolate world filled with ever-present dangers” and being resourceful is the name of the game.

“Your survival depends on your ability to strategize and plan ahead. The enemies you will face are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – to defeat them you must fully utilize your arsenal. In battle, quick decisions can mean the difference between life and death.”

Describing the combat as “challenging” isn’t much of a shock. CronosThe official reveal trailer gave us a look at some truly terrifying creatures, and if they’re as badass to fight as they are to look at, they’ll be going head-to-head with other threats from the same genre, such as Dead Space’s wild necromorphs.

Overall, there are still questions to be answered about the game, but this might be our best look at new details in a while since a release date has yet to be set. Silent Hill 2 has also achieved massive success, so there’s no telling if support for that game will disrupt development.

We do know that though Cronos: The New Dawn will be available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S when it lands in the future. So if getting scared out of your pants sounds like a good time, stay tuned for updates on this one.
