Vermont tourism officials release updated eclipse tourism figures

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont officials on Friday released two reports indicating that tourism continues to be a major economic driver for the Green Mountain State.

The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing says visitors who saw the eclipse in April spent an estimated $34 million in the state.

That figure is dwarfed by foliage spending, which averages $500 million each year.

The report notes that most eclipse visitors only stayed in the state for the day, while leaf-gazers tend to stay longer and spend more.
