Lucknow: Three unidentified impostor done with Rs 20 lakh from an SUV on Ayodhya Road near Kamta in Chinhat on Friday.
The incident unfolded around 11:40 a.m. when Vikram Singh, who was driving, and his passenger, Govind Singh, were approached separately by three young men who each alerted them to an alleged oil leak from their SUV’s engine.
“Vikram stopped to check and got out to inspect the alleged leak, with Govind following him. As the two checked the engine, another man discreetly approached the rear window of the car, opened it and stole a bag containing the cash, which was kept in the car.a polythene package on the back seat. CCTV footage from a nearby shop caught a young man who quickly took something from the vehicle and left, said ACP Vibhuti Khand, Radha Raman Singh.
“The suspects created a diversion, which enabled them to get away with the money smoothly. The victims only realized the money was missing when they returned to the car, when they informed the police,” the ACP said.
Police said the money belonged to Beriyal Singh, a steel and iron merchant who owns a shop on the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway. Beriyal sent his two cousins, Vikram and Govind, to deposit the money at a PNB branch in Gomtinagar.
“Initially, a man approached and told Govind, who was driving, that oil was leaking from the bonnet, but they ignored him. After a minute, another youth approached with the same warning. They dismissed it again, thinking that if it was true, The SUV would have sounded a warning, but a third person approached soon after and expressed concern about the oil leak.
Meanwhile, one of the unidentified men took the cash bag from the middle seat of the SUV. The cousins ​​first informed their uncle and then contacted the police.
