Performance pro mode is the default setting for the PS5 Pro. It targets 60 frames per second while maintaining image quality in the usual Fidelity mode. It uses the console’s improved PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) machine learning upscaling technology to achieve this. All ray tracing features are on by default, including ray tracing reflections on water and windows. The patch notes say this mode is recommended for most players.

The “fidelity pro” mode is for players who want to experiment with some of its new graphical switches. This mode targets 30 FPS and can reach higher frame rates with a combination of tweaking the new graphics features and using a VRR and 120 Hz display. It is also noted that pedestrian density may increase in some areas, and hair detail increases.

The new graphical switches are tied to its ray tracing capabilities. Specifically, there is a toggle for ray-traced reflections that has medium (the default setting for performance) and high (the default value for fidelity). Ray-traced ambient occlusion can be set to off (default value for performance), medium, and high (default value for fidelity).

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2 are just two PlayStation party games getting PS5 Pro-specific updates. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, God of War Ragnarokand Horizon Zero Dawn remastered will also improve with the new console. PS5 Pro launches on November 7, 2024.
