WorkSafe inspects rides and vendors at the Royal Hobart Show

WorkSafe Tasmania inspectors have been scrutinizing rides and food vendors at this year’s Royal Hobart Show.

Inspectors checked vendors at the fair on October 23 and 24, focusing on ensuring safety and proper maintenance of the attractions.

They have since given the show a clean bill of health, after finding no safety issues during recent inspections.

“Public safety is the primary concern when carrying out the inspections,” a WorkSafe spokesman said.

“WorkSafe Tasmania is pleased to report that no notices have been issued as a result of the inspections.”

The show, which is in its 203rd year, has a range of entertainment options, from dinosaur shows and animal exhibits to rides and crowd favorite competitions.

Over 12,000 people visited the Regatta Grounds on Thursday, with organizers expecting to break attendance records.

Scott Gadd, chief executive of the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania, said the future of the Glenorchy showground remained uncertain – with delays for site renovations.

“I honestly don’t think we’ll have the new showroom ready next year,” he said.

“We’re still waiting for some planning approval, so we’re hoping to start in January.”

“That means next year we will be looking for a home, probably here (at the Regatta Grounds), but I’m not 100% sure what the condition of this site will be next year either.”
