Cooper Koch Reacts to Menendez Brothers: ‘Overwhelmed with Gratitude’

Yesterday, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón announced that he would recommend to Lyle and Erik Menendez become resentful. “We will recommend to the court that life without the possibility of parole be taken away and they would be convicted of murder,” Gascón said, which would make the brothers immediately eligible for parole.

Shortly after this press conference, actor Cooper Koch, who portrayed Erik i Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflixpraised Gascón’s decision. “I am overwhelmed with gratitude and hope for the progress we have seen today,” Koch said in a statement posted on his Instagram story. “Gascón’s recommendation has ignited a renewed sense of possibility that Lyle and Erik may finally be released after decades behind bars. But this journey is not over.”

He continued, “There are still critical steps ahead: the judge must approve the plea, and if that happens, parole must recognize the time they have served as appropriate for the crime. Our voices, our unwavering support, remain crucial—not only because the brothers should secure their release, but also for all victims of sexual abuse to be heard soon.

He wasn’t the only star to come forward to applaud Gascón’s decision. Kim Kardashian, who recently visited the brothers in prison, also shared her praise. “The Menéndez brothers got a second chance at life and will wake up tomorrow finally eligible for a parole hearing,” Kardashian wrote on her Instagram story. “They can be released as early as six months. Thank you, George Gascón, for revisiting the case of the Menéndez brothers and correcting a significant error. Your commitment to truth and justice is commendable.”

She added, “To the brothers’ family, friends and the millions who have been vocal supporters – your voices were heard. The media’s focus, especially on the heels of Ryan Murphy’s TV show, helped expose the abuse and injustice of their cases. Society’s understanding of abuse against children has evolved, and social media gives us the opportunity to question the systems in place.

Kardashian concluded, “I believe in the legal system’s ability to evolve, and I’m grateful for a society where we can challenge decisions and seek justice. Never stop questioning.”
