Athiya Shetty proudly cheered on her husband, KL Rahul, after his stellar performance alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal during the first Test match between India and Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Sharing her admiration on Instagram, she wrote, “The one who never gives up, never backs down,” highlighting her love and support for Rahul’s dedication and resilience.

Australia started strongly on the opening day, putting India on the back foot. However, India fought back and managed a 46-run lead with the ball. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal made history with an opening partnership of 201 runs, India’s highest in Test matches in Australia. This broke the 1986 Sydney record of 191 runs by Sunil Gavaskar and Krishnamachari Srikkanth. Gavaskar also holds the third spot on the list with Chetan Chauhan for their 165-run stand at the MCG in 1981.

The partnership is the first double-hundred stand by Indian openers on Australian soil, showing the difficulty of opening in such conditions. India is now in a strong position in the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his fourth double century, while KL Rahul was dismissed for 77 by Mitchell Starc, narrowly missing out on a century. With almost three days to go, India are aiming to build a big lead and tighten their grip on the game.
