Bukayo Saka has no illusions about who will be the perfect Ben White replacement

Arsenal defender Ben White will be sidelined for at least the next two months after undergoing surgery to once and for all deal with an injury that has kept him out for the past few months.

In his absence, someone needs to step up at Arsenal’s right back, and who more than Jurrien Timber?

Timber has been nothing but good since joining Arsenal; on and off the field he has won us over. It’s sad that his first season didn’t go as planned due to an ACL injury, but it gave us a chance to see what a perfect return looks like with his performances this season.

Although workload injuries have tried to hold him back, whenever on the pitch he has been absolutely fantastic, his desire to get the ball and his ability to advance it is nothing short of impressive.

Whether at right-back or left-back, he has injected class into Arsenal’s defence; he has put opposing wingers on lockdown, causing them to go MIA and thus not impact the game.

With White out for a while, it’s time for him to step up and make sure the levels on the right wing don’t drop. But should anyone worry that White won’t be available?

Bukayo Saka not long ago openly revealed how perfect the Dutchman is at right-back, saying: “He gave me confidence by telling me that when he has 1-1 against a striker, he will take the ball back and give it to me.

“With the ball, he is very calm and confident. He is an excellent player; I’m glad he shows it.

“It must have been difficult for him to know he had so much ability but was gone for a year.”

So far, we’ve only seen flashes of his true potential. He hasn’t really had a consistent run in the team. Hopefully he will find some momentum in the next few weeks. If there was ever a time when he proved his class, it’s right now.

9 points behind league leaders Liverpool, Arsenal need spirited performances from their players, and hopefully that’s what Timber and the rest of the Gunners will offer.
