Baggage handlers share suitcases that are less likely to be “thrown into the plane” | Travel News | Trip

Having your luggage lost or damaged while en route to your holiday destination is a nightmare scenario and the worst way to start a holiday.

Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to protect your precious possessions, and a lot depends on the type of bag you buy.

A baggage handler has revealed the best ways to ensure your bags get from A to B without getting lost or broken.

Writing on Reddit, the anonymous baggage handler said investing in a bag with a good zipper is key.

They said: “Drive chains. Cheap zippers eventually leave you with your clothes in the belly of a 737 scattered all over the place, and the baggage handler will try to scoop it up and put it back in the bag, but then your clothes might smell like fish/dog urine/ everything in the cargo hold smelling, or covered in a light dusting of the aluminum floors rubbed off under all the friction of loading and unloading cargo and baggage.”

They added that as tempting as it may be to stuff your bag full of everything you need, it’s a one-way ticket to disaster.

“Not too much in your bags! 9/10 these are the bags that completely explode, cheap zippers, crap quality fabric and an overstuffed bag is just a ticking time bomb for all your belongings to fly everywhere.”

They also recommended leaving the plastic wrap at home. As tempting as it may be to wrap your bag to protect it, it can cause problems.

“We know in some places it’s necessary, but please for the sake of your bag and our backs, please leave the wheels available for use and please have a 4-wheeled bag. The plastic prevents the bag from sliding on smooth surfaces and has to be discarded/discarded/ thrown away in order to be loaded in the hold.”

Having four wheels and a hard plastic case is the best way to protect your belongings.

Reddit user Adam, who claimed to be a baggage handler, suggested that travelers buy a bag that has “four good wheels, with soft lining on the inside and a hard outer shell,” which is the best type of suitcase according to the travel expert. .

He explained that the wheels are important because “we tend to throw those bags around less when we’re in the hold of an airplane, and the other features help keep your stuff down.”
