NBEMS releases leave guidelines for postgraduate medical interns

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), headquartered in New Delhi, has introduced a comprehensive set of leave guidelines for postgraduate medical interns. These rules aim to streamline the leave process for interns enrolled in NBEMS-accredited institutions while ensuring that they meets mandatory educational requirements.

According to NBEMS, each graduate program under its authority requires a certain period of mandatory training. Trainees must complete this training within the specified timeframe to qualify for the Exit Examination.

Any delay in completing the program may jeopardize their eligibility to appear for the final assessment.

DELIVERY RIGHTS FOR TRAININGS

NBEMS trainees are entitled to 30 days leave per yearcalled “entitled leave”. This allowance ensures that trainees can balance personal responsibilities without compromising their education.

In addition, interns can take weekly time off or serve during their program. If an intern is on leave, however, the leave per week will be counted as part of the total leave.

GUIDELINES FOR MATERNITY LEAVE

Female trainees are eligible for maternity leave as per the prevailing central or state government guidelines applicable to the educational institution.

However, NBEMS does not allow an extension of maternity leave beyond the permitted duration, nor does it provide childcare leave (CCL) during its educational programs.

The guidelines expressly prohibit interns from taking study leave, engaging in any form of employment, or enrolling in other academic courses during their leave.

CONSEQUENCES OF TRANSFERABLE LEAD

Trainees who exceed the allocated 30 days per year will receive an extension of their training period. The length of this extension will correspond to the additional leave taken.

NBEMS emphasizes that such an extension cannot be adjusted by working overtime or on holidays.

This structured leave policy underscores NBEMS’ commitment to maintaining the quality and consistency of graduate education.

Interns are encouraged to follow these guidelines to ensure timely completion of their program.
