Last time Army beat Notre Dame: Revisit the rare upsets in historic college football rivalry

Army and Notre Dame will meet for the 52nd time on Saturday, Nov. 23. This is one of the oldest rivalries in college sports, but the rivalry does a lot of heavy lifting as Notre Dame is 39-8-4 against Army.

The teams first met in 1913 at West Point in New York. It’s not an annual scheduled rivalry like Army-Navy, as the Black Knights haven’t played the Fighting Irish since 2016. It’s been even longer since Army picked up a win in the series. You have to go back decades to see the last time the Black Knights prevailed over the Fighting Irish.

However, that doesn’t mean they should be written off on Saturday. Army enters ranked No. 19 in the nation and undefeated at 9-0. They are still double-digit underdogs, but of late this is arguably their best chance to win the game.

Below we detail the last time Army beat Notre Dame in football.

Army and Notre Dame first played on November 1, 1913. The first nine of their matchups over the next 10 years were all held at West Point.
