AUBURN — Wet roads were blamed for a three-car rollover that left one driver with injuries early Friday morning on the Maine Turnpike in Auburn.

The 12:30 p.m. wreck at mile marker 75 northbound left the roadway reduced to one lane in that area for 2 1/2 hours.

Police said the driver of a northbound passenger vehicle appeared to have lost control and spun out before stopping on the roadway. That vehicle was then hit by a box truck, which then skidded into a tractor trailer, police said.

“After striking the tractor-trailer unit, the box truck rolled over the guardrail and came to rest partially down an embankment,” according to a news release from Maine State Police.

The driver of the box truck was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with injuries described as non-life threatening. There were no other injuries, the police said.

Police were unable to identify any of the drivers involved in the crash.

Police said speed and wet road conditions were contributing factors to the crash, which remains under investigation.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Maine Turnpike Authority, State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and the Auburn Fire Department.
