LU KALA entering her “cool mom era!”

On Friday, Nov. 22, the “Pretty Girl Era” singer, 29, announced that she is pregnant and expecting her first child. The musician shared the exciting news Instagram, posting a picture of a sonogram.

“New chapter,” the soon-to-be mother, born Lusamba Vanessa Kalala, captioned her post.

Ever since she performed in church as a child, the Congolese-Canadian singer-songwriter knew she was going to be a pop star. “I never had a plan B,” she said PEOPLE in March 2023.

“I started doing shows locally in Toronto and got into different music shows, and then I started traveling to the US to meet people in the music industry,” she recalled.

The singer scored a viral hit last year with “Pretty Girl Era,” which has been used in over 23,000 TikTok videos since its release. She has since followed it up with her first ever Notice board Hot 100 hit as featured artist on Latto’s “Lottery”.

LU KALA finds inspiration from whatever is “on her heart” at the moment, knowing that she has to “live life” to create lyrics.

“During the pandemic, it was difficult, so I wrote mostly about past experiences, but now I’m happy to be back and write about what I’m feeling right now,” said the artist.

“Recently I’ve been feeling really beautiful, confident and focused on myself – that’s where the inspiration for ‘Pretty Girl Era’ came from,” she added.
