May is known for playing Elsa Dutton, a main character and narrator on the two Yellowstone prequel Paramount+ series 1883 and 1923. She also recently appeared in Apple TV+ series Master of the Air.

It comes after Patrick Dempsey also recently confirmed that “there has been a conversation” about him returning to play Mark Kincaid, who is Sidney’s husband in the films’ more current timeline. He last played the role in the 2000s Scream 3.

“I’m waiting for the script,” the actor said. “I haven’t seen anything yet, so we’ll see what happens.”

Melissa Barrera led Scream 5 and 6but got fired from Scream 7 last year after posts on Instagram in support of Palestine. Co-leader Jenna Ortega also announced that she would not be returning due to other scheduling commitments.

At the time, Campbell – who had appeared in the first five Scream films – had distanced themselves from the franchise after missing out on last year’s Scream 6 due to “wage disparity”.

After Barrera’s firing, Campbell was then offered the lead role once more and agreed to return after “the studio heard me when I talked about the pay gap and when I talked about (Scream 6 negotiations) do not feel respectful’.

In late September, Courtney Cox—who is the only actor in the franchise to appear in all six released films— confirmed that she has not officially signed on for the seventh film: “They rewrite all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on.”
