Tejano star Bobby Pulido will retire from music to pursue politics

Bobby Pulido leaving music to continue policy. On Thursday, the Tejano artist behind the hit “Desvelado” announced that he will leave music after a 2025 farewell tour to run for office in 2026.

“To be honest, I’m enjoying the biggest success I’ve ever had. But as the saying goes: All good things must come to an end,” Pulido said during a press conference. “Today I’m announcing my farewell tour for next year. It’s not a decision I’ve made in haste. I’ve thought about it a lot. I think my life has come full circle.”

“Growing up, public service has always fascinated me. I was one Texas Boy Stater in high school and studied political science because it was a passion of mine,” he added. “In 2026, I will run for office in an effort to fulfill my lifelong dream: to serve my people.”

Pulido said he is not ready to share what he is running for yet, or which party he will join. However, he went with Beto O’Rourke for a rally during his race for Texas Senate against Ted Cruz in 2018.

“People are exhausted after a grueling political season. In time, everyone will know what I stand for and in what capacity I would like to serve,” Pulido said Thursday.

The tour, called the Por La Puerta Grande Tour, will include a stop at Bésame Mucho Austin next April. (He has yet to share the tour’s routing.)

Pulido began his speech by sharing his journey to music: He did well in high school and studied poli-sci at St. Mary’s in San Antonio before “the music flirted with me” and he decided to drop out when Selena Quintanilla was killed.

Fighting back tears, Pulido thanked his friends and family, his ex-wife and the people who have supported his music career.
