JSO bodycam video reveals chase that led to shooting of gunman accused of inappropriately texting teen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Newly released body camera from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shows an officer shooting one 18-year-old man accused of threatening a mother who confronted him over inappropriate text messages with his 13-year-old daughter.

The video released Thursday night begins with Mr. Robinson pulling into the parking lot of a Popeyes restaurant on McDuff Avenue near Interstate 10.

Cerry Banks was standing behind the store when Robinson exited his patrol car on Nov. 11 with his gun drawn and ordered Banks to put his hands up and turn around several times.

“Turn your (expletive) that (expletive) away from me,” Robinson said.

Banks visibly put his hands in the air and turned his back on the officer as Robinson continued to give him commands.

Robinson moved closer to Banks and said, “Get your (expletive) hands up before I shoot your (expletive).”

Banks ran and the police followed him. Seconds later, Robinson yelled, “Pow, pow, pow! Gun, gun, gun!”

As Banks ran away, JSO said he pulled out a gun and turned with the gun in his hand.

Then the police fired eight shots. The chase continued through a gas station parking lot into a nearby area with Robinson demanding that Banks get on the ground.

At one point, Robinson fell over a fence and lost track of Banks.

Banks was shot multiple times.

In another video, Robinson returns to the gas station parking lot where Banks dropped the gun.

Officers were later able to track Banks down to where he was hiding in a sewer pipe.

He was arrested and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Banks is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts of lewd or lascivious conduct with a minor, one count of traveling to meet a minor after using a computer to solicit a child, and one count of unlawful use by a minor. communication device.

This incident made the seventh police shooting this year.

This is an open investigation and the sheriff’s office is reviewing the officer’s actions to ensure they are consistent with company policy.
