Menendez Brothers: Members of the public can enter a lottery for courtroom seating

Lyle and Erik Menendez will appear in court for a status hearing Monday, and the public is invited to attend. But getting a seat can be difficult.

The court holds a public lottery which enables 16 members of the public to get a seat in the courtroom.

The hearing is scheduled for Monday, November 25 at 10:30 a.m. in Section S on the ninth floor of the Van Nuys Courthouse West at 14400 Erwin St. in Van Nuys.

The court will conduct a public lottery for 16 public courtroom seats between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in front of the Van Nuys Courthouse West.

FAMILY:

Lotteries will be awarded at 08.00-09.00. The lottery starts at 09.30. Winners will be awarded badges that must be worn at all times in the courthouse. The badge is only valid for that date.

The winning tickets are not transferable. Two additional standby tickets will be drawn, but standby tickets do not guarantee a seat in the courtroom, court officials said in a statement,

The trial is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m

Seat holders must arrive on time before the hearing starts or they could potentially risk losing their seat.

Court order

• No photography, video or recording is permitted in any courtroom or hall or lobby at any time, including the use of cell phones to take pictures, video and audio recordings.

• Mobile phones must be switched off and kept out of sight. Seat holders will be required to place their mobile phones in a locked bag provided by the court before entering the ward.

• Eating, drinking or chewing gum is not permitted in the courtroom.

• Members of the public are also instructed to follow the Court’s General Order 2023-GEN-005-00 on Expressive Activity which restricts demonstrations, distributions, solicitation and other expressive forms of activity both inside courthouses and near courthouse entrances.
