Gov. Andy Beshear urged residents to stay safe during his weekly Team Kentucky press conference that weather forecasts predict snow and gusty winds making its way into parts of central Kentucky Thursday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service in Louisville expects most local areas to receive about an inch of snowfallwith some areas approaching two inches. Beshear said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet road crews have begun treating roads in areas expected to be impacted by the incoming weather.

A winter weather advisory has been issued along the Interstate 75 corridor and other counties east of Louisville, although snowfall and winds up to 35 mph could cause hazardous driving conditions in the city, as a wave of snow and wind is expected to reach Louisville in time for rush hour.

Roads aren’t expected to be slippery, NWS of Louisville meteorologists predict, but the mix of snow and wind could hamper visibility during the afternoon commute.

“Get your gear on. Getting somewhere safe is more important than getting somewhere fast,” Beshear said.

Beshear urged residents not to panic, but simply to be cautious, as the snow showers are expected to pass overnight.

“It’s just a flurry coming, but be extra careful out there. We’ve been through a lot. We don’t want to lose anybody in a flurry,” Beshear said.
